Cabin No. 6: Scenic Byways Cabin
This warm and comfortable cabin, built in the 1940s, celebrates the spirit of adventure that infused the American public after the lean years of the Great Depression and the rationing of World War II. Cars were becoming more reliable, gas was available, the trains ran on time, and the American public took to the open road. Vintage travel posters, historic transportation photos, and framed reproductions of the great magazines of the era decorate this cabin and tell a delightful story of the way travel used to be.
Experience the excitement of the early days of traveling for pleasure- when a 65-mile automobile trip from Sandpoint to Spokane was an all day adventure that required a tire patch kit and the ability to use it, a well-stocked picnic hamper and a cool stream to enjoy it by.
This cozy cabin, with its red linoleum entry porch and richly stained wood floors, cedar wainscoting, period furnishings, vintage toys, books and games, collectible décor and real old-time magazines, is a treasure trove sure to stimulate the imagination and please guests of every age.
